Better Tracking for Shopify Chargebacks Is Here

Chargebacks are easy to overlook when calculating profit.
When you don't account for the money lost and fees charged from chargebacks, your net profit can look better than it really is.
So we've updated TrueProfit to handle this automatically.
Here's How It Works
TrueProfit automatically syncs chargeback and dispute data from your Shopify Payments account.
When a dispute ends in Lost or Accepted, TrueProfit accounts for these two:
- Chargeback Loss — the order amount taken back after a chargeback
- Chargeback Fee — the processing fee you pay when a chargeback is filed
Both are deducted from Net Profit. Your Revenue and Total Cost remain unchanged.
Where Can You See the Metrics?
You can now find Chargeback Loss and Chargeback Fee in:
- Dashboard — as standalone metrics and in the Net Profit breakdown
- P&L Report — as 2 line items before Profit-related line items
- Mobile app dashboard & widgets in both iOS & Android
The metrics are available in both single-store and multi-store views.

A Few Things to Know
You Can Choose your Recording Date
You can choose when Chargeback Loss and Fee are recorded based on how you prefer to handle them in your books.
There are 2 options:
- Resolution date — the default option from Shopify
- Order date — records the chargeback cost based on the original order date

Shopify Protect Is Excluded
Shopify Protect is a program that automatically covers certain fraud-related chargebacks on eligible orders. If a chargeback is confirmed as covered, it's not counted as a Chargeback Loss.
Only Shopify Payments Is Supported for Now
For now, chargeback tracking is only available for Shopify Payments. Chargebacks from other payment gateways aren't supported yet.

There are a few more nitty-gritty details around how chargebacks are recorded and calculated.
We've covered all of that in our help doc, so give it a read if you want the full picture.
